Image Credit: The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology
Following the October business meeting and election officers, Chuck will discuss his visit last summer to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy, and specifically, Otzi, a mummified human discovered in 1991 in the Schnalstal glacier in the Alps, on the border between Austria and Italy. He died around 3300 BC. Research revealed that he was a shepherd, who died, a victim of murder and disease.

President’s Message
I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. As mentioned in June during September and October I will be in Arizona and New Mexico researching the correlation between groundwater, Chacoan Great Houses and Chacoan Roads. Therefore Chuck Tudor will conduct the meetings. I will be home for the Annual Dinner in November.

Elections
September 28, 2012

As Davey Johnson mentioned in our September newsletter, it is election time. I have been asked to head the election committee. At the September meeting we opened the floor for nominations for all positions.  Chuck Tudor has stepped down as Vice President, and Stephanie Tice was nominated and accepted the nomination for his position. However, Chuck was nominated for Trustee and accepted the nomination for that position.  For the other open Trustee position Doc Bayne was nominated and he accepted the nomination.  There were no other nominations from the floor but we are going to leave the nominations open until October 10th.  Therefore, if you would like to nominate someone for any officer or trustee position please do so via email or mail (my address is listed below) and we will add their name to the ballot.  Once the nominations are closed, I will then email the final ballot for voting.  Votes will be tallied by our October 19th meeting and results will be announced at our Annual Dinner in November.

Below is a complete list of all positions and nominees for our chapter, please note that the incumbent officers have agreed to another term.

Field Trip
Special Chapter Tour of Rockshelters near Iona Island led by Doc Bayne!
Sunday November 4, 2012
Meeting 11am at the Iona Island kiosk.
Doc will lead us on a tour of surviving rock shelters near Iona Island. Since the Island has been extensively used and developed for so many purposes since colonial times most of the pre contact sites have been destroyed - but Doc knows where those surviving sites are!

Florist Site
Stephanie's crew has been working at the Florist Site and will continue to work there as long as the weather is favorable. If you have any questions please contact our Field Chair, Stephanie.

This site provides all our members a wonderful opportunity to experience serious archaeology first hand with a good sense of humor. We hope all of our members can take advantage of this opportunity to develop their skills as archeologists. If you are new to the chapter here is your opportunity to participate in an archaeological investigation and learn the techniques needed to properly document a site.
