Chapter's 2014 Field Season Opens!

Barry, Clif, Gary, Margaret and Steph opened the 2014 field season with a new unit between lines D & F.
Steph, Margaret and Barry ready to dive into the screen as soon as Gary stops shaking.
The first 25 cm yielded modest amounts of fire cracked rock, some debitage (mostly brownish chert, as above),
and lots angry ground spiders like the one above, which, for the most part, were safely relocated.

2013 labs continue this Thursday, 7 pm at Clif's place in Chester.

Next Sunday, we'll be back at the site, assuming the weather cooperates.

May, 2014 Meeting: "Fire in the Ramapos"

Steph discussing her stoneware jugs and bottles during the intermission.

The public program that followed our Friday May 16th meeting was
"Fire in the Ramapos"
By

members of Rockhouse Mountain Music: Norman, Suzanne and Nathan Brahm,
with technical/visual assistance provided by Doc Bayne.

This was a radically different kind of program, with the Brahms telling a few stories about several Ramapo Mountain communities forcibly displaced by the creation of Bear Mountain Park in earlier part to the twentieth century with traditional folk songs of the region, new compositions, illustrations, photographs of the people and places. Especially touching were the photos of Norman's grandmother, her family and their home taken by the Park.

IOCCNYSAA field season opens Sunday, May 18, 2014!

The IOCCNYSAA field season will begin this weekend, Sunday May 18th at 9am. Remember you must be a chapter member to participate and feel free to bring whatever equipment you would like (but is not mandatory). We should be out at the site every Sunday if whether permits. If it is raining in Middletown (or has rained heavily that morning), assume that we will not be digging, and stay tuned to emails and our Facebook page for any other cancellations. Contact me for any information and directions. I hope to see everyone come out this season and get your hands dirty!

Additional suggestions:
Bring water and or snacks if you’d like.
Take suitable precautions for being in the field with poison ivy, spiders, ticks, mosquitoes, etc.
