Chapter's February 18th 7:30 pm meeting will be virtual.
Dave Moyer is IOCCNYSAA's Featured Speaker following the meeting.
Join us on Zoom on February 18 at 7:30 p.m. to hear Dave Moyer, owner & president of Birchwood Archaeological Services, speak about recent excavations in Callicoon, Sullivan County, NY. Dave is also a friend in the New York Archaeological Association, where he currently serves as vice president.
Dave's talk is entitled, "Archaeological Excavations at the Callicoon Creek Precontact Sites." Archaeologists, who were working as part of a new wastewater project in the Village of Callicoon, have identified a series of precontact archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. Artifacts recovered have included chipped stone tools, fragments of pottery and debitage from stone tool production. While the artifacts suggest use of these sites over thousands of years, features including cooking hearths, post molds and food storage pits suggest an intensive occupation dating to Late Woodland times.
Results of the study reveal important information about seasonality, ceramic production and mobility in the Upper Delaware watershed.
