June is a show-and-tell meeting.

June is "a show-and-tell meeting. We do not have a speaker, unless one of our own wants to do one, short notice.

We can invite members to show:
1. An unusual artifact
2. A cool craft to do

These would provide us with some great and fun discussions.

IOCCNYSAA at the Gem and Mineral Show, Museum Village yesterday!

We met lots of interested adults and kids alike at the Orange County Mineral Society’s Rock / Fossil / Gem show. We sold a few hand-sewn felt sloths and mastodons (they are still available!), gave out lots of archaeological coloring pages/activities for kids, and handed out brochures to teens and adults about membership. We discussed “Harry” (the mastodon) a lot, due to chapter members’ work to preserve him, a display poster  former VP Gary Keeton made, and the ability to visit him right there at Museum Village!

We thank the OC Mineral Society for allowing us to be visible at this event, remind folks we are here, and meet some interested locals for the first time. We were even able to point some very interested out-of-area folks to their local NYSAA chapter.

Our new Chapter Vice-President Veronica Ditko talks about her book, “A Rock Solid History of Hawthorne, New Jersey,” on Hawthorne Towncast!

New Podcast!

for Hawthorne History month

I’m thrilled to announce I am on a new podcast by the Hawthorne Towncast.

If you’ve never listened, host Flavio Romeo is a funny and lively guy and we talk about my book, “A Rock Solid History of Hawthorne, New Jersey,” finding history near you and the clues to get you there! I am also joined by my friend Dr. Stephanie Silvera, a renowned epidemiologist.

He is calling January Hawthorne History month, and there are a few more podcasts to consider too. Have a listen this weekend and enjoy!
